Today Friday, November 11th is Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day is a federal statutory holiday in Canada. It is also a statutory holiday in three territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut) and in six provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador).

🌺 Remembrance Day Facts:

– On this day members of the armed forces are commemorated

– Also known as Armistice Day: marking the date/time armies stopped fighting World War I on Nov 11th at 11 am in 1918 (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month)

– Roughly 100,000 Canadian soldiers died in the First and Second World Wars

– Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honor and remember the men and women who have served and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict, and peace.

– All government buildings fly the Canadian flag this day to remember those who fought for Canada with a 2-minute silence at 11 am

– Many people wear poppies to show respect and support for Canadian troops

– The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day. Replica poppies are sold by the Royal Canadian Legion to provide assistance to Veterans.

– In the U.S. the day is called Veteran’s Day and is also observed on November 11th
